Douglas MacLaren, Owner and licensed Acupuncturist
Doug MacLaren first became interested in Buddhism and Asian religions when he read Herman Hesse’s Siddhartha his senior year at Archbishop Williams High School. After earning a degree in History with an Asian Studies concentration at the College of the Holy Cross, Doug pursued his interest to teach English in Japan. Nine years later, he’d worked in elementary and junior high schools, co-owned an English conversation school, and started receiving acupuncture treatments. These experiences planted the seeds of his calling as a healer and teacher.
Doug returned to the US, completed foundational studies at the New York College of Chiropractic in Seneca Falls, and earned the Master of Acupuncture degree at New England School of Acupuncture in Watertown (now in Worcester). After internships at medical facilities in Boston, Doug and his wife Zoe, a yoga teacher specializing in trauma recovery, purchased a local acupuncture clinic in Berea, Kentucky, where they spent 5 years tripling the business in size and becoming a healing resource to the community.
After the birth of their son, they sold the practice and moved back to New England to be closer to family. Doug spent a year in Portland, Maine, honing an expertise in fertility acupuncture, and in 2014, they finally returned home to Massachusetts to open MacLaren Transformative Acupuncture.
Doug is pleased to bring his gentle brand of transformative healing to the South Shore communities where he grew up.
